North side pride |
| Recently, there has been some discussion about the state of the north side of Ottawa. I would like to share some news about a project that is in the fundraising stage. At the northeast corner of Wilson and Milner streets is an empty lot. This lot is the future home of North Baptist Church, now located at 413 E. Wilson St. We see this project as more than just a new facility for our congregation. This project is part of the larger movement of growth on the north side of the river. With this in view, we are in the process of raising funds and making plans for a new facility that we desire to be more than just a place for Sunday morning worship services. Our desire is to use our new building as a place for activities for everyone: an after-school program for children, youth programs, concerts, various support groups, community events, classes on family-related topics, and for having public information sessions. However, we are not waiting for a new facility to begin offering some of these services. We already have a 4-H group and a Wednesday night youth group. We also are running a parenting seminar and hope to soon have sessions on finances. We can see things happening north of the river. North Baptist Church is excited about being part of the future of Ottawa and I personally hope that you see our new building as an integral part of the revitalization of the north side.
