No one may ever be able to answer the age-old riddle of which came first, the chicken or the egg, but the next two weekends the egg tops the list.

Nine Easter egg hunts are scheduled throughout Franklin County Saturday and Sunday.

“We’re really excited and the kids are really excited,” Sherry Harris, Pomona Merchant Association member, said about the Second Annual Pomona Easter Hunt. The hunt originally was set for Sunday, but was changed to April 11.

Children will have a lot more to hunt for in Pomona this year.

Last year, 650 eggs were hidden and this year the number has increased to 2,000.

“We’re expecting a lot of kids,” Harris said.

Children 3 and younger and those 4-6 will hunt at 2:15 p.m. April 11 at Pomona City Park, West Franklin and C streets. Children 7-8 and 9-10 will hunt at 2:30.

Each age group will have two numbered eggs that can be redeemed for prizes. Refreshments will be served.

Two thousand is the number of Easter eggs in Ottawa Recreation Commission’s hunt Saturday at Forest Park, 518 W. Forest St., Ottawa.

Children 5 and younger will hunt at 2 p.m. north of the pool, and children 6-10 will hunt at 2:30 p.m. by the tennis courts.

Each group will have 12 eggs with special markings that can be turned in for prizes that include Easter baskets and gift certificates, Brandy Shoemaker, Ottawa Recreation Commission recreation supervisor, said.

Sacks will be provided for those who need them. Pre-registration at the Don Woodward Community Center, 517 E. Third St., Ottawa, is requested but not required.

Fun for all ages

Easter egg hunts are not just for children.

“The residents are very excited. They enjoy helping prepare for the event by stuffing eggs and watching the children have such a good time,” Dee Shaffer, Ottawa Retirement Village director of marketing, said about the facility’s Easter egg hunt.

The 1,000-egg hunt is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Ottawa Retirement Village West, 1527 S. Twyman St. Age groups include younger than 2, 2-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12.

Prizes will be given and three-legged races for each age group are planned.
