Close races end in upsets

It was a night of upsets for candidates in the Pomona City Council and Ottawa School Board races.

Joann Hancock upset Richard Adler for Pomona mayor by just five votes, while Bill Lloyd Sr. and Joe Goracke beat out incumbents Marie Seneca and Don Lockaby for council positions.

In the Ottawa School Board race, newcomers Darrell Bourque and Brandon Jones, along with incumbent Marge Stevens, won the three open spots, leaving incumbent Jeanette Lowry out by four votes.

All three incumbents, Gene Ramsey, Linda Reed and Rocky Fleer, were re-elected to the Ottawa City Commission.

Results are unofficial until canvassed. County Clerk Shari Perry said write-in votes in surrounding city council and school board races won’t be calculated until Thursday.
