Garrard, Hasenkamp win events

NORTH NEWTON — Ottawa University junior Justin Garrard won both the 10,000- and 5,000-meter races Saturday in the Bethel College Invitational.

He had a winning time of 33 minutes, 32.5 seconds in the 10,000 race. His 5,000 time was 16:49. Garrard ran a total of 37.5 laps around the track. He is training for the NAIA national marathon (26.2 miles).

Freshman Maggie Hasenkamp continued her perfect season. She has won every NAIA meet she has participated in. She won the javelin with a toss of 122 feet, 7 inches.

She also  won the OU Bo Boucek Classic with a toss of 125-0. She is two feet from qualifying for the national meet.

Ottawa will compete Friday and Saturday in the conference meet in Wichita at Friends University.
