Braves' Ratterree wins KCAC shot put

WICHITA — The Ottawa University track teams had one conference champion, set a school record and finsished with 10 all-conference performances this past weekend in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference meet in Wichita.

Junior Carlin Ratterree won the men’s shot put with a personal-best 48 feet, 9 1/2 inches. It was his first throw.

“He had a great meet,” Ottawa coach Kirk Wren said. “I’m happy for him. He has worked through a lot of diversity this season.”

Ratteree also took third in the discus at 138-5.

Junior Analee Huffman set a school record in the women’s pole vault. She had a personal-best 8-6 to take third.

Junior Justin Garrard continues to compete at a high level. He finished second in the men’s 5,000- and 10,000-meter races. He raced the 5,000 first with a time of 16:05.

After an eight-minute break, he competed in the 10,000 and had a time of 33:53.

“No one in the KCAC had done the back-to-back race before,” Wren said. “He is a machine when he races.”

Men

400 hurdles — 5, Andrew Hamburg, 58.67; 6, James Randolph, 59.15.

5,000 — 6, Levi Houston, 17:22.

Javelin — 5, Kyle Gorton, 165-7.

High jump — 4, Trenton Jacobs, 6-2.

Pole vault — 3, Gorton, 13-6.

Women

Pole vault — 5, Bruce, 8-0.
