Kathryn Jean Shields, 78, of Mound City, Kan., passed away Thursday, May 1, 2008, at Olathe Medical Center. Cremation is planned.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008, at Wilson’s Funeral Home in Wellsville.

Inurnment will follow at a later date at Quantico National Cemetery in Triangle, Va. Memorial contributions may be made to Fallbrook United Methodist Church in care of Wilson’s Funeral Home, P.O. Box 486, Wellsville KS 66092.

Kathryn Jean was born Sept. 13, 1929, in Wellsville, Kan., the daughter of Walter and Maggie Olive (Wright) Revey. She grew up in Wellsville and graduated from high school in 1947. On March 16, 1949, she married Robert “Ed” Shields. They were married for 59 years. Kathryn was homemaker most of her life and also was a Certified Tax Preparer for H&R Block for many years. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the United Methodist Church of Fallbrook, California. She loved to work with her flowers and in her yard.

Kathryn is survived by her husband of the home; a daughter, Cynthia, and her husband, Peter Vlasic, of Royal Oak, Mich.; a son, Raymond, and his wife, Diana Shields; of Manassas, Va.; a grandson, Daniel, and his wife, Shannon Vlasic; a granddaughter, Christine, and her husband, Kyle Medaugh; a granddaughter, Jennifer Shields; a great-grandson, Hayden Vlasic; a sister, Mary Ann Shields, of Mound City, Kan.; a brother, Walter Revey, of Spring Hill, Kan.; and numerous  nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Lois Ruth Thomas.
