| The Wellsville High School baseball team heads into Monday’s 3A regional at Central Heights with a full head of steam. The Eagles carved up a 9-0 win Thursday over Jayhawk-Linn in the Pioneer League tournament at Central Heights. Wellsville coach Phil Pearson said it was the best the Eagles played this season. “We hit the ball hard ... one through nine,” he said. “It was the best we fielded. We needed that.” His message is to build off that win. The Eagles (5-12) play 2 p.m. Monday against Mission Valley in the first round. The winner plays Tuesday against Central Heights, which recieved a bye as the top seed. “We have a good shot to win Monday,” Pearson said. “We are playing well at the right time of year.” Pitcher Scott Thompson had a dominating performance. Pearson said Thompson will be ready to go Monday in the regional. |
