A great event | ![]() Copyright 5/13/2008 • www.ottawaherald.com |
I had the pleasure last week of attending the Kansas Barnstormers Tour event put on by CASA of the 4th Judicial District. The event featured local celebrities playing several senior members of the University of Kansas basketball team. Many thanks to Sara Caylor, Haylie Colby and all of the volunteers from CASA of the 4th Judicial District. They put on a very fun event and helped raise money for a great cause. CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates. CASA volunteers become advocates for children who are placed into our court system through no choice of their own. After receiving training, volunteers are matched with a child. They then work on behalf of the child to help the court make decisions that serve the child’s needs and best interests. Independent audits have shown that CASA advocates often obtain more services to help children in need and have a better rate of helping close cases and keeping children from re-entering the child welfare system. If you have a heart for children and want to feel as though you are making a difference, I encourage you to consider volunteering with CASA. The local contact number is (785) 229-8996. Thank you again to all of the CASA staff and volunteers for the work they do and for a great event with the KU Barnstorming Tour.
