OU’s Hildebrand on all-region squad

Ottawa University softball infielder Josie Hildebrand was selected to the NAIA Region IV softball team.

Hildebrand had a .418 batting average in 153 at bats. The junior drove in a team-best 49 runs and scored 51. Hildebrand had a slugging percentage of .641 and an on base percentage of .483. She also had 10 stolen bases.

Ottawa qualified for the Region IV tournament for the third time in the past four seasons.

OU spikers add middle blocker

Ottawa University’s volleyball program has announced the signing of Brittany Bush of Lancaster, Texas.

Bush, a 6-foot-2 middle blocker, earned four letters in volleyball and basketball for the Tigers. She was named Outstanding Blocker in 2004, all-district second team in 2005 and all-district first team and Offensive Player of the Year in basketball in 2006. Bush has also been selected to participate in the NTBC Basketball All-Star Game this summer.

 “We are very pleased to have Brittany joining us in the fall,” Ottawa coach Lorrie Hammit said. “She is a long, dynamic athlete with a great deal of raw talent.  She will be fun to watch develop over the next four years.”

Bush plans to major in communication.

Olathe’s Archuleta joins OU soccer team

The Ottawa University women’s soccer program has announced the signing of Olathe East senior Deiree Archuleta.

Archuleta, a 5-fot-2 midfielder/forward, played basketball and soccer for three years for the Hawks. She helped the Hawks to the Shawnee Mission South title her freshman and sophomore seasons. Archuleta helped her club team to a state title and to two Division I championships.

 “Desiree is a great late addition to our program. From highly respected Kansas City club and high school programs, we are glad she chose OU to continually develop her game,” Ottawa coach Craig Shaw said. “She adds depth to our squad and with her great attitude and desire to be here I feel she will go from strength to strength while adapting to the college game.”

 Archuleta plans to major in exercise science.

Foursome claims scramble victory

The foursome of Jim Hepner, Gary Oshel, Chad McClay and Randy Hinderliter shot a minus-4 to win the Wednesday night scramble at Hickory Hollow.

John Geist (No. 3) and No. 7 (Joe Geist) were closest to the pin winners.
