Elite Citizen Scholar: MEGHAN RUSH, Wellsville High School

Being a good citizen can take an act as simple as eating lunch with someone who has no one to sit with, Meghan Rush said.

“When you help someone you get a sense of self-worth, a sense of meaning that makes  you feel complete,” she said. “Just taking the time to do little things can make a difference in many lives, including your own.”

Rush, Wellsville, was recognized as an Elite Citizen Scholar at Wellsville High School.

She helped organize the student council’s Breast Cancer Awareness Walk to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Research Foundation. She said she has a personal interest in raising money to fight breast cancer — a relative was diagnosed with breast cancer at 31.

“I know first-hand the effects breast cancer can have on a family,” she said.

During her high school years, Rush has been part several clubs like art, drama, KAYS, National Honor Society and Future Business Leaders of America; yearbook; Scholar Bowl; dance; sports like track and cross country; math team and choir.

She also is active in youth group, Fellowship of Chrisitan Athletes, church choir and is a music teacher for vacation Bible school.

She worked as a lifeguard at the Wellsville City Pool.

Rush plans to attend Kansas State University.

She is the daughter of Kip and Connie Rush, Wellsville.
