The lawyer for a new Casey's General Store planned for Pomona wants building inspections for the project to be handled by the county.

In a letter to Pomona city officials, dated Thursday, Doug Beech, Casey's legal counsel, asked the city to let the county step in because of "challenges the company has had in the site plan and zoning process."

"I believe this will be less controversial for both the city and Casey's and will facilitate the town getting a new Casey's store in a cost efficient and timely manner," Beech wrote in the letter.

He declined further comment on the letter in a phone call today.

Doug Combs, Pomona's zoning administrator and building inspector, has not yet returned a phone call.
