| By The Herald Staff The Ottawa High School softball team had seven players nominated and voted upon by the Kansas Softball Coaches Association. Ottawa was the 4A state runner-up. The first-team all-state selections were pitcher Hailie Ray, shortstop Shelby Miller and designated player Mikela Scott. The honorable mention selections were Anna Mages, Jori Graf, Taylor Moore and Joselyn Dean. “This is a huge honor and a major state and recognition as to what the ladies as whole were able to accomplish not only as individuals, but as a team,” Ottawa coach Corey Katzer said. “You always feel like you could get more on the first or second team, you always want all of your players that are nominated to be on the first or second team, especially when you have a season like this one, but you must realize that to be nominated and receive votes is a huge deal. “It means whether you are first team, second team, or honorable mention you as an individual have been noticed not just in the local area, but statewide and that is huge not only for them, but for the program in general.” Mages led the Cyclones in earned run average. Graf will play softball for Allen County Community College. Moore, a four-year starter at second base, will attend Neosho County. Dean returns to OHS for her sophomore season next spring. Katzer said the tandem of Dean and Mages will be one of the best in the state next season. | |
