Woman in mo-ped wreck remains in ICU

A Wellsville woman remains in the ICU today after an accident involving a mo-ped Tuesday night.

Diane Spisak, 59, Wellsville, was life-flighted to KUMed, the University of Kansas hospital, just after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday after she lost control of her mo-ped scooter on Vermont Terrace, Sgt. Curtis Hall said.

Diane’s husband, Drew Spisak, said his wife does not appear to have any brain injuries but has several broken bones in her face.

She underwent surgery Wednesday to repair those bones and still remains hooked up to a ventilation tube, Spisak said.

Diane Spisak was injured after she lost control of her mo-ped while rounding a corner, her husband said.

When Drew Spisak reached his wife, she was unconscious and not breathing, he said.

He then performed CPR before an emergency crew arrived to life-flight her, Drew Spisak said.

Although Diane Spisak’s tracheal tube — which helps her breathe — still remains in place, Drew Spisak said he hopes it will be removed sometime today.
