| By CLEON RICKEL, Herald Senior Writer GARNETT — Lake Garnett will offer wheels and water this weekend. The Kansas INT — International Novice Tour League, which promotes amateur and professional water-ski, wakeboard and kneeboarding competitions — will have a competition Saturday and Sunday at the lake. As a finish to its week of Vacation Bible School with a classic car theme, the Garnett Church of the Nazarene will have a car and bike Show from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the west shelter house in the North Lake Park, which is the same location as Lake Garnett Cruisers’ Auto Show during Cornstock. Both events are free for spectators. The INT tour has been stopping in Garnett since 1998. Competitors at these tournaments are mostly novice or “weekend warriors;” however, the INT now offers professional categories for competitors as well. Contestants can ski a slalom course, compete in novice to outlaw and pro-level wakeboarding and wakeskate, and novice to advance kneeboarding. There is also a wide ride (wide ski) category. The INT League brings a special computer judging system and provides professional ski boats, ropes and equipment. It is not necessary for competitors to have their own equipment to enter. The competition is open to all ages and has special classes for children 13 and younger. An awards ceremony is held at the end of each day’s event. INT coordinators Mike and Susan Riffle have a 150-entry cut-off. The Kansas INT League tour will return later with the Kansas State Championships at Lake Garnett For entry information, contact Mike or Susan Riffle at (913) 908-1768 or the Web site www.intleague.com. Registration for the car and bike show will be 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday. For more information, contact Bob Wisdom, (785) 448-6211. The entry fee is $5 and each paid entry will receive one free ticket redeemable for free Mexican food at the church’s concession stand. Awards will be presented at 1:30 p.m. Awards to be given include Boys Choice, Girls Choice, Best of Show, Best Interior, Best Paint, Best Engine and Best Club Participation. | |
