CHARLES RICHARD GEIGER

Charles Richard (Rich) Geiger passed away 12 a.m. July 18, 2008, at Delmar Gardens Hospice in St. Louis, MO.

An Ottawa, Kansas resident for forty years he was born June 4, 1922, in Ottawa, the son of Charles T. and Elinore (Lingard) Geiger. He later resided in Stilwell, Kansas and Johnson County, Kansas for over 35 years.

He attended Ottawa University, Kansas University and the Illinois Institute of Technology before enlisting in the army. He served with the 96st Infantry Division in World War II and was wounded on Okinawa in 1945. He was awarded the Bronze Star with two oak leaf clusters and a Purple Heart for his service to his country.

After the war he was associated with the grain business and farming. He retired from the Kansas City Board of Trade in 1986.

An avid trap shooter, he was active in local, state and national trapshooting events and won many awards. Other interests were raising bantam chickens and perfecting the breed of Old English game bantams and also breeding and training English setter dogs for field trialing.

He married the former Jean Montgomery January 16, 1949, in Ottawa, Kansas and she survives.

He is also survived by their two children, Brooke Geiger Miller and her companion Gary Bellm of Godfrey and Robert Bruce Geiger of Atlantic City, New Jersey; his sister Jane Nevin and brother in law Harry Nevin; of Palo Alto, CA; three grandchildren Ashley Knight of Chicago, IL; Shannon Knight and her spouse Dean Schmitt of Grafton Il. and Robert B. Geiger, Jr. of Atlantic City, N.J. Great grandchildren include Tyler, Blaire & Ben Kleeman of Chicago, IL & Robert III, Michelle & Paige Geiger of Atlantic City, N.J.

Visitation will be from 2 till 3 p.m. on Saturday July 19, 2008, at the Elias Kallal and Schaaf funeral home in Godfrey Il. where funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Tom Oleny officiating. Military rites will be accorded after the service by V.F.W. post 1308.

Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday July 21, 2008, by Elias Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home at Highland Cemetery in Ottawa, Kansas.

Memorials may be made to your local Humane Society in the name of Charles Richard Geiger.
