A memorial service for Dr. C.O. Nauman, 81, Lawrence, Kan., will be at noon Saturday, July 26, 2008, at First Presbyterian Church in Lawrence. Private inurnment will be at a later date in Highland Cemetery in Ottawa, Kan. He died Sunday, July 20, 2008 at his home. Dr. Nauman was born on Jan. 6, 1927, at Emporia, Kan, the son of Clarence G. and May Laura Davidson Nauman. He received a B.S. in business administration from the University of Kansas in 1950. He graduated from U.M.K.C. School of Dentistry, as a doctor of dental surgery in 1955. Dr. Nauman had been a Lawrence resident since 1957. He retired from his dental practice in 1983. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He later retired as a captain in the Naval Reserves. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he had served as an elder. He was a member and past president of the Noon Cosmopolitan Club. He was also a member of the Retired Officers Association, the Reserve Officers Association, and the Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14 of the American Legion. For several years, he served as a recruiter/information officer for the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. He also was a life member of the American Dental Association and the Kansas Dental Association. In the 90’s, he was a trustee of Ottawa University. He was also a member of the advisory board of Lawrence Presbyterian Manor and for a number of years, chaired the Bob Frederick Presbyterian Manor/Good Samaritan Fund Benefit Golf Tournament. He married LaVonne Newman on June 2, 1950, at Sterling, Kan. She survives of the home. He also is survived by a daughter, Barbara A. Nauman, Overland Park, Kan.; a son, Robert L. (wife, Paula J.) Nauman, Louisburg, Kan.; five grandchildren (Scott Yessen, Emily Yessen, Eric Nauman, Kurt Nauman and Kyle Nauman) and four great-grandchildren. The family will greet friends from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Memorials in his name may be made to Douglas County Visiting Nurses and Hospice Care or to the LMH Endowment Association and sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
