Eileen Vallis (Smith) Koon, 94, Pomona, died Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at the Richmond Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Richmond. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Ottawa. She was born in 1914 at Lincoln, Neb., to Winfield Edwin and Elsie May (Vallis) Smith. She lived at Los Angeles, Calif., before she moved to Pomona in 1952. She attended the Pleasant View Country School, rural Lincoln, Neb., through the sixth grade and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1932. She was a member of the Richter United Methodist Church. She enjoyed knitting, gardening and metal detecting with her husband. She worked in retail sales at various stores in Lincoln, Neb. She also worked at Cadwallader Fur, Lincoln, Neb., from 1936 to 1941. She also worked as lead inspector at Parmelee Products, Ottawa, from 1961 until her retirement in 1980. She married Frederick Edward Koon Sept. 26, 1936, at Lincoln, Neb. They shared more than 60 years of marriage. He preceded her in death April 1, 1997. Survivors include a son, Roderick V. Koon, Pomona; a sister, Elaine Wagner, Lincoln, Neb.; a cousin, Ralph Vallis, and his wife, Ruby, Salina. She also was preceded in death by sisters, Louise Julia Levsink and Olive Bassler. Burial will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona. Family will meet with friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
