Mary M. Vega, 81, of Ottawa, Kansas died Wednesday, July 23, 2008, in Ottawa. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa.

She was born Thursday, July 29, 1926, at Ottawa to Cecelio and Refugio (Alonzo) Cruces.

She was a lifelong Ottawa resident.

She attended Ottawa schools.

She was a member of Community Foursquare Church, Ottawa.

She was a homemaker and worked as a seamstress at H.D. Lee. She retired in the late 1980s.

She married Luis M. Vega Sept. 28, 1947, at Olathe. He survives.

Survivors also include daughters, Rosalind Flores, El Centro, Calif., Stella Jackson, and her husband, Kevin, Ottawa, Patricia Shenk, Wichita, and Sara Vega, Ottawa; a son, Richard Vega, and his wife, Diane, Lawrence; a sister, Mildred Minden, Ottawa; a brother, Richard Cruces, and his wife, Alta, Ottawa; 17 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Salvador Vega; brothers, Abelino Cruces and John Cruces; grandsons, Kevin Jackson Jr. and Salvador Vega II; and great-granddaughter, Kristina Vega.

Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa.

Friends may pay their respects from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and after 1 p.m. to the service hour at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Family will meet with friends from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
