The subject of a manhunt in Ottawa that involved dogs and helicopters is in custody today in Johnson County.

Jason Houston, 22, of Ottawa, was arrested by Johnson County officers Thursday afternoon in Overland Park with assistance from Overland Park and Ottawa police, Ottawa Police Capt. Randy Allan said late Wednesday.

Houston was wanted on a department of corrections warrant, Allan said.

He was reported as an active inmate at the Johnson County Jail in Olathe this morning.

According to Kansas Department of Corrections records, Houston was sentenced on charges of aggravated burglary, criminal restraint and domestic battery in Franklin County in April 2005. He was paroled Dec. 14, 2007.

Houston was reported as absconding, or leaving his jurisdiction without notification, from his parole July 24, 2008.

The search for Houston started Tuesday in Ottawa when he jumped from his car and ran after a traffic stop near the intersection of 15th Street and Montana Road.

The Ottawa officer who conducted the stop recognized Houston as a fugitive felon. Search assistance included K-9 units and a State Highway Patrol helicopter.
