Princeton: Infrastructure first |
| It may be small, but it’s not going anywhere. In fact, several improvement projects are on this year’s docket for Princeton, Mayor Donna Magee said. Magee said the city will redo its chip and seal streets this summer, as well as prepare to redo its sewer ponds. She said last year, Princeton finished a complete makeover of its water system. The $750,000 project included a second water tower on the east edge of the city, as well as replacing all of the city’s water lines and new water hydrants. Princeton received a federal grant and loan from Rural Development to build the system and signed a 10-year contract with the city of Ottawa, Magee previously said. The improvements were needed because the city was outgrowing its water supply, she said. Magee said housing hasn’t been extremely strong in the city, but a few homes have been added in the past few years. In the business area, Princeton staples include the Brand N’ Iron, Plaschka & Kramer Liquor Store and the Princeton Quick Shop, Magee said. Magee said she’d like to see more housing and business in the city in the future. “Just generally improve the town,” she said.
