| By The Herald Staff BALDWIN CITY — Extra time was needed for the Ottawa High School boys soccer team Tuesday in its battle with Baldwin in Baldwin City. After several missed opportunities, Ottawa made one count in overtime to forge a 1-0 victory. “We were able to hang in there,” Ottawa coach Glen Cahill, who has not lost an overtime contest as the Cyclones coach, said. “We could not get the ball into the back of the net.” At least until the overtime. Cahill urged the Cyclones to keep the pressure on Baldwin. It worked. Ottawa had a throw-in on Baldwin’s third of the field. Ian Sutton gave Braden Ward a perfect pass and he one-timed it past the keeper for the winner. “It was a matter of time,” Cahill said. “We took care of business.” The coach said Ottawa dictated play, especially in the second half. “We played on their half of the field the last 10 to 15 minutes of the second half,” Cahill said. Ottawa went to a three-forward attack in the second half. Cahill also moved Sutton to the midfield. Cahill said the senior gave Ottawa energy in the middle. Ottawa (7-4) plays 6 p.m. Thursday against Gardner at Peoples Bank Field. JV falls The Ottawa junior varsity lost 1-0. Ottawa was coming off a 1-0 victory Thursday over Spring Hill. Shawn Turner netted Ottawa’s goal. Ottawa is 3-6-1. | |
