OU men soccer players selected all-conference

WICHITA — Five Ottawa University men’s soccer players were selected to the all-conference teams in a vote by the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference coaches.

 Seniors Marvin Graham and Colin Wylie, and sophomores Philip Nguyen, Zac Huffman and Mike Mesle earned All-KCAC honors.

Graham, a senior defender from Amarillo, Texas, earned first team honors after receiving honorable mention the last two years. He played in all 18 games, starting 17 for the Braves. Graham had one assist on the season which led to the gamewinner versus Bethel College.

Nguyen, a sophomore forward from Wichita, was a second-team selection this year after receiving honorable mention honors a year ago. He led the Braves in goals with nine and tallied two assists for a team high 20 points.

Nguyen recorded his first career hat trick in OU’s 4-1 victory over the University of Saint Mary on Oct. 31. He has two gamewinning goals this season.

Wylie, a senior midfielder from Edinburgh, Scotland, earned second team honors and is a two-time all-conference selection. He battled his way back from injury at the start of the season to earn six goals and had a total of 12 points. Wylie had two game winning goals.

Huffman, a sophomore midfielder from Kechi, was a first-time selection, receiving honorable mention honors.

He tallied three goals and three assists in his second season as a Brave. Huffman was second on the team in points with nine.

Mesle, a sophomore defender from St. Charles, Mo., started all 18 games for the Braves on his way to earning honorable mention honors. He scored one goal on the season and was part of a defense that was 26th in the NAIA in total shutouts (5).

The Braves finished third in the KCAC and will play 7 p.m. Saturday in the first round of the postseason tourney at home against sixth-place Bethany. The winner advances to the semifinals set for Wednesday against No. 2 seed Kansas Wesleyan.
