Citizen Scholar: MADELAINE HAMPTON, Central Heights High School

It’s important to show love for people and respect for the community, Madelaine Hampton said.

“I love to help people clean their yards and pick up trash on the streets,” Hampton said.

For a community service project, Hampton and her youth group went to St. Louis to clean neighborhoods.

“It was so amazing to see how it impacted people. They all thanked us for helping out,” she said.

Hampton is active at school with FCCLA, Future Business Leaders of America, Spanish Club, Science Club, Pep Club, yearbook and newspaper, Drama Club, and academic and athletic letterpersons clubs.

She also works with the X-Treme 180° Youth Council and its fundraising committee and attended Kansas Girls State.

She works in food service at Osawatomie State Hospital.

She plans to major in fisheries and wildlife conservation at Kansas State University and hopes to become a marine biologist.

She is the daughter of Charles and Deborah Hampton, Ottawa.
