Citizen Scholar: BILLY WICKS, Central Heights High School

The most memorable community service for Billy Wicks was teaching fourth grade students about his adventures traveling historic trails as part of the Discovery Trails program.

“My favorite part was seeing how amazed they were at the activities we had done,” Wicks said.

He’ll continue his service with the program this summer when he works as a counselor for young people as they travel the former Santa Fe Trail from Kansas City to Santa Fe, N.M.

Wicks also has been active with his church and cut grass for an elderly couple.

At school, he is involved with theater, forensics, Swing Group, Scholar Bowl, band, the National Honor Society and Academic Letterpersons’ Club.

He plans to attend Wichita State University, seeking a degree in music performance.

He is the son of Jerry and Leesa Wicks, Princeton.
