DR. RAY M. JONES

Dr. Ray M. Jones, Jr. age 83, of Baldwin City, Kan., passed away Oct. 31, 2009, at his home in Baldwin.

He was born Feb. 16, 1926, in El Paso, Texas, the son of Thelma (White) and Ray Mandeville Jones Sr.

He married Edna Olivia Johnson Aug. 27, 1948, in Lyman, Miss.

Dr. Jones grew up in El Paso, Texas, and graduated from Austin High School in El Paso.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre.

He graduated from Texas College of Mines (now known as University of Texas at El Paso). He also graduated from Dallas Theological Seminary, Dallas, Texas. He later graduated from Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Jones was a physician in Baldwin City for 46 years, the physician for Baker University for more than 25 years, and the past president and a longstanding member of Kansas City Association of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Jones was the oldest practicing physician in the state of Kansas.

Dr. Jones will be remembered for his ability to memorize the scripture of the Bible and for sharing his love of Jesus Christ to others. He enjoyed preaching the gospel and helping lead others toward a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Edna, of the home; daughter, Ruthie Goldey, of Palmetto, Fla.; five sons, Travis Jones of Broken Arrow, Okla., David Jones of Baldwin City, Paul Jones of Kechi, Tim Jones of Baldwin City, Ben Jones of Siloam Springs, Ark.; three brothers, Royal Jones of Slidell, Texas, Bobby Jones of Fredericksburg, Texas, and Ray Maurice Jones of Modesto, Calif.; one sister, Nancy Lou Jones of El Paso, Texas; 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at the Baldwin Gospel Chapel at Third and Chapel streets in Baldwin City.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church in Baldwin City. Burial will follow at Stony Point Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Baldwin Gospel Chapel with designation toward “Christian Missions in Many Lands,” sent in care of Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, PO Box 64, Baldwin City KS 66006.
